The earliest date that we know for sure that Lyons High School existed was 1908, in the three story structure you see pictured above, which was located adjacent to US Highway #1 where the current Toombs County Board of Education resides.  This building was apparently torn down in 1955 to make room for more modern renovations and new facilities.  The main building was replaced by the one inset here, and was a source of many fond memories for folks who preceded us, until it was lost to fire in 1975.  lhs63

After the fire is when the High School that we all came to know and love was placed in service.

Many thanks to Larry M. Griggers and the information on his website for this brief snippet of history.  If you would like to know more about the history of Lyons High School, please visit his website here.
